Good morning, Ypsilanti. Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 18th of April.

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Late Wednesday, a neighbor alerted a man at his home on the 700 block of Calder Avenue in Ypsilanti Township that a fire had broken out in the attic and he escaped with his dog — firefighters controlled the blaze in about 15 minutes after it caused roughly $90,000 in damage and displaced two residents with the Red Cross providing help.  MLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On April 17, University of Michigan faculty held a special meeting at the Alexander G. Ruthven Building (in Ann Arbor) to demand that the school bring back its DEI programs and protect immigrant students after some had their visas taken away. Nearly 150 faculty and about 1,000 online participants discussed four motions, and voting will run until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 20 (to decide on the next steps).  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City leaders in Ypsilanti set a goal to extend the city's rainy day fund — which currently covers 51 days of operations — to reach 91 days after a resolution was approved on April 15. Maximize Space and Stay Organized with Compression Packing Cubes

Don’t overlook compression packing cubes for your next trip — they’re a simple but transformative travel essential. Designed to compress clothing and maximize space, these cubes help you fit twice as much into your suitcase without the bulk.

Beyond just saving space, compression packing cubes keep your luggage neat and organized. Group your outfits by day or category, separate clean and dirty clothes, or designate cubes for different family members when traveling together. No more rummaging through your suitcase — everything stays in its place, easily accessible when you need it.

Lightweight and durable, these cubes are ideal for carry-ons and checked bags alike. They also help prevent overpacking by limiting how much you can fit in each cube. Once you try them, you’ll wonder how you ever traveled without them.
