About this event
Coyopa Yoga is a high-intensity suspension yoga class that uses straps to challenge traditional yoga postures while developing strength, balance, mobility, and core stability. Inspired by functional movement and athletic training, this unique practice combines the mindfulness of yoga with the challenge of strength-based movement. Classes feature energetic music and high-energy verbal instruction to match the intensity and pace of the practice. The word Coyopa, meaning “lightning of the blood” in Mayan tradition, represents energy, awareness, and transformation. This practice is designed to challenge both the physical body and the mind through controlled movement, focus, and intentional effort. Expect a physically demanding class that requires upper body strength, core engagement, balance, and body awareness. Due to the intensity and nature of suspension-based movement, this class is best suited for students with an established yoga or fitness foundation. Participants should feel comfortable supporting their body weight and performing challenging movements while minimizing the risk of injury. Participants should not have a current shoulder injury and should have sufficient upper-body and core strength to safely participate. Each class runs approximately 60–75 minutes depending on the focus and intensity of the practice. If you are looking for a challenging yoga experience that builds strength, improves balance, and takes your movement practice beyond the traditional mat, Coyopa Yoga offers a completely unique way to train your body. If you are new to this class, please arrive 5–10 minutes early to complete a waiver form.
