CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Alumni Memorial Hall at the University of Michigan Museum of Art will close for renovations next January—replacing its 115-year-old marble floor while planning to reopen galleries in fall with large events resuming early 2027. MLive
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Flint native Brendan Kelly (an EMU graduate) was named the new president at a Board of Regents meeting on Dec. 10 in Welch Hall; he will replace James Smith in July after 10 years in office. MLive
- ➤ University of Michigan astronomer Teresa Paneque won the 2025 Eric and Wendy Schmidt Award for Excellence in Science Communications in September; she will use the prize to expand her Spanish-language outreach and raise science education locally — a boost for inspiring young learners. MLive
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Crews from the Department of Public Works plow and salt Ypsilanti roads during winter weather. Residents are advised to clear road obstructions including trash bins & recycling bins, vehicles and other objects to help the crews work safely and effectively. City of Ypsilanti
- ➤ Trash and recycling services will run one day behind schedule since no collection is planned on Christmas Day (trash on Friday and recycling on Saturday) in Ypsilanti. City of Ypsilanti
