- ➤ Terracon Consulting used ground-penetrating radar in November to scan Woodlawn Cemetery at 7800 S. Huron River Drive in Ypsilanti Township and found 160 potential gravesites in the historic cemetery founded in 1946 by Pastor Garther Roberson for people of color. The firm will return in March to continue the search as local volunteers and organizations work to restore the neglected site. MLive
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Woodlawn Cemetery, the only historic Black cemetery in Washtenaw County, is undergoing a cleanup as Terracon volunteers used ground-penetrating radar to detect 160 grave-like anomalies—local volunteer Randall Luten plans to restore his uncle’s grave and help install headstones and historic markers. The project, led by the African American Cultural and Historical Museum in partnership with local groups, will continue with advanced scans in March to map and honor all the unmarked graves. MLive
