CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Dzanc House, a nonprofit arts and crafts and writing center at 402 S. Huron St., received a cease-and-desist letter for operating illegally but city officials have suspended enforcement—if it applies for a zoning amendment so it can continue offering workshops, exhibits, and readings. Supporters at a recent city council meeting expressed relief as the center remains a key community resource. MLive
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ After a 43-day government shutdown ended, millions received SNAP benefits but some residents still did not get their payments. Jack Willard—who has a long-term brain injury—said he faced repeated automated calls and was promised food stamps by 11:00 p.m. along with help resolving his Medicaid issues. FOX 2
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ State Rep. Erin Byrnes proposed a bill that will ban the sale of certain weight loss products and muscle-building supplements to minors in Michigan— the Council for Responsible Nutrition criticized the move, saying existing FDA regulations already protect consumers. The proposal still awaits a hearing and a vote on the House floor. FOX 2
