ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Michigan is home to seven national champion trees recognized by the National Champion Tree Program—one is an eastern hophornbeam in Ypsilanti at Hewen’s Creek Park on Bemis Road that stands over 70 feet tall with a 112-inch trunk while others stand along curbs in Allegan and by homes in Berrien; the program, established in 1940, uses detailed measurements to honor these living links to history.  MLive
