- ➤ At the Brown Jug on 1204 S. University Ave in Ann Arbor, Buckeye Tears—a light wheat beer caught in a trademark dispute with Ohio State—has seen a surge in orders from Michigan fans after its trademark was filed on Aug. 19 and challenged on Aug. 27. Niko Porikos must respond by Oct. 6 as the legal process is expected to continue into 2027 while the beer is distributed by Ypsilanti-based O&W, Inc. MLive
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Whitmer began her trade trip to Japan and Singapore on Aug. 31 — she announced that Michigan will receive $168M in investments with a $95M automotive supplier headquarters in Wixom and a $72.8M global headquarters in Zeeland that will bring about 350 jobs. Lawmakers must pass a budget by Oct. 1 to avoid a shutdown. MLive
- ➤ A report by the Citizens Utility Board of Michigan found the state's power providers ranked among the worst in the nation in 2023—Michiganders endured the longest outages. Regulators said improvements were underway to boost grid reliability. MLive
