  • A new report from Washtenaw County shows a 77% rise in homelessness since 2022, with a January count finding 373 people experiencing the crisis—driven primarily by rising housing costs and a shortage of affordable options. The study also notes that Black individuals make up 52% of the homeless despite being a smaller share of the population, while veteran homelessness declined—offering only a snapshot of the wider issue.  MLive

CRIME NEWS

  • On Aug. 29, the Humane Society of Huron Valley rescued 126 animals from a traveling zoo in Plymouth after receiving an animal cruelty tip (the tip involved a woman with a history of abuse) and the animals are receiving veterinary care as authorities continue searching for the suspect.  MLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Michigan has raised over $4 billion from more than 230,000 donors through its Look to Michigan campaign + officials said it reached 57 percent of its $7 billion goal.  MLive
