BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ The University of Michigan sued AstraZeneca on Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan because the company used its virus strains in FluMist after the licensing agreement ended, and the university is asking for $50 million in damages. The suit says AstraZeneca falsely claimed it did not need the strains even though it still relied on them for the vaccine’s safety. MLive

- ➤ DTE’s tuition assistance program helps employees earn college degrees while balancing work and family; Twinna Moss began classes at Central Michigan earlier this year and is one of about 70 employees receiving full tuition coverage for A or B grades—promising a strong, future-ready workforce. - ➤ University of Michigan opened its expanded battery lab at Ellsworth Road on August 27 that gives companies 4,000 feet of lab and production space with an industrial automatic laser welder and a lithium-ion battery production line—features that support battery research. The expansion will help attract more research partnerships as UM prepares a new Electric Vehicle Center. MLive

- ➤ Michigan now bans AI-made porn using real images after Gov. Whitmer signed new bills on August 27th—these laws set prison time for anyone who creates or spreads deepfake images without consent. FOX 2
- ➤ The City of Ypsilanti invited residents on August 28 to complete the Hazard Mitigation Community Survey to give input on natural and non-natural hazards for future planning; city officials will use the responses to guide hazard plans. City of Ypsilanti
