- ➤ Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel charged Susan O’Hara of New Boston with embezzling over $2 million from General RV Center in Wixom by using her access to issue and cash fraudulent checks — she is set to appear in the 33rd District Court on Sept. 2. MLive
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Protect Augusta Charter Township collected nearly 950 signatures during door-to-door efforts by resident Travis Matts to allow voters to decide on rezoning 522 acres for a planned computer data center near Milan—officials are verifying the signatures to meet the 561-vote requirement for a future ballot expected at the next regular election or in a May special election. - ➤ The Michigan Department of State suspended Coach Richmond’s Driving School—at 301 West Michigan Ave.—after an investigation found the school taught in an uninsured car, did not use the proper curriculum, kept no required records, and had too many students, with the suspension set to remain indefinite pending further review. - ➤ Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said Monday that DTE's $574 million rate hike request should be cut nearly 75% to a 2.5% increase to keep electric bills affordable. DTE defended the request by pointing to recent grid improvements—regulators and consumers now question if the change is cost effective. MLive

- ➤ West Nile virus was detected in mosquitoes collected on Aug. 5 and Aug. 8 from Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti Township, and Saline with no confirmed human cases in the county yet—although cases have been reported in the state, health officials urge residents to avoid mosquito bites by using repellent, wearing long sleeves, and removing standing water.
