- ➤ A Republic Services garbage truck caught fire around 3 p.m. Aug. 21 near Florence and Ballard Streets in Ypsilanti and dumped about 30 yards of burning trash in a vacant lot — the driver’s quick action kept the fire from spreading further. MLive

- ➤ The Michigan Department of State suspended Ypsilanti-based Coach Richmond’s Driving School on Aug. 21 for alleged violations in recordkeeping, classroom capacity and instruction methods—owner Aaron Richmond said he plans to meet state officials soon to fix the issues. MLive
