BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Yuengling beer became available in Michigan Monday after years of absence, with beer on tap in Ann Arbor, East Lansing, and Detroit and packaged offerings set for stores in September using a Ypsilanti-based distributor. The move marks the popular lager's first entry into the state and a new choice for local drinkers. FOX 2
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A former county clerk, Kim Davis, asked the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn the 2015 ruling legalizing same-sex marriage, which allowed Michigan couples to marry despite a 2004 amendment. ACLU attorney Jay Kaplan said the request challenges established law — if reversed, same-sex couples in Michigan might have to marry out-of-state. FOX 2
- ➤ The Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners has approved nine local organizations to receive over $2.2 million in opioid settlement funds to support substance abuse prevention and treatment programs – the grants will be distributed over three years to help local residents. MLive
- ➤ Residents are invited to attend two public input meetings on August 14 and August 19 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at City Hall (1 S Huron St) to help shape the 2026-2030 Parks and Recreation Masterplan and guide future improvements to local parks and public spaces. City of Ypsilanti
