CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Noah Matthew Williams, 23, pleaded guilty to assault less than murder for slashing a woman on a bus in Ann Arbor on Aug. 5 — he also pleaded no contest to assault with a dangerous weapon in a separate case. MLive
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Gregory Smith, formerly Farmington Public Schools’ director of diversity, equity and inclusion, was unanimously selected as the new superintendent of Lincoln Consolidated Schools after a two‐month search—replacing Bob Jansen who left in May. His appointment is set to guide the district in its next steps. MLive
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Ypsilanti City Council will hold an in-person/virtual hybrid meeting at 7:00 p.m. on August 12th in Council Chambers at City Hall—members of the public will be able to comment during designated times. City of Ypsilanti
- ➤ On August 8, Attorney General Dana Nessel warned local residents that a fake website is using the name Southeastern Michigan University to mimic Eastern Michigan University. Eastern Michigan University filed a complaint with her office and urged students to verify contact details and accreditation before sharing any personal information — the site is not connected to a real college.
