GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The city of Ypsilanti renamed a street in honor of fallen officer Douglas Downing—he died during a bank robbery shootout in 1975 at the former National Bank on Park Street and Michigan Avenue. The renaming marks 50 years since he lost his life in the line of duty. MLive
- ➤ City officials announced that Double Trash Week will take place the week of August 18 and allow residents to set out double their usual trash on their regular pickup day — households must follow weight limits, set items out by 7 a.m., and purchase extra labels from City Hall for items above the limit.
