EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Ypsilanti Community High School and ACTech have been approved as an International Baccalaureate career-related school that combines academic study with career skills. The program is part of the district's magnet school plan funded by a $15 million grant running until 2028 — officials say it will expand hands-on learning opportunities. MLive
- ➤ The U.S. Department of Education announced on July 23 that it is investigating the University of Michigan+and four other colleges over scholarship programs for immigrant and undocumented students after complaints that they exclude American-born applicants. The investigation was prompted by concerns raised by the Legal Insurrection Foundation’s Equal Protection Project. MLive

- ➤ Starting Tuesday, July 29, crews will begin installing underground fiber cables downtown. N. Huron will be closed at Michigan Avenue through Wednesday, July 30—detour signs will guide drivers to Adams St and Washtenaw Ave while through traffic is encouraged to use River St to Cross St. City of Ypsilanti
- ➤ Lawmakers introduced bills that would let police swab drivers' mouths on the roadside to quickly check for drugs and the proposal has sparked both support and concern from safety officials and civil liberties groups—HB 4390 and 4391 passed the House and now move to the Committee on Civil Rights, Judiciary, and Public Safety for further review.
