CRIME NEWS

  • A 25-year-old man was found guilty of second-degree murder by a 12-person jury on Friday, July 11 after fatally shooting an innocent bystander near Ypsilanti.  MLive
  • 25-year-old Devin Terrence Rashon Miller pleaded guilty on June 9 to accessory after the fact in a fatal shooting in Ypsilanti Township that killed Antonio Brown on May 23, 2024 after he testified against codefendant Shonquez Lawson—facing murder charges—in a trial held on July 8 in Ann Arbor.  MLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Michigan announced an Early Decision option for first-year applicants of the 2026-27 academic year+ qualified students will learn their acceptance by December but must withdraw all other college applications if accepted.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents are invited to an open-house meeting at Parkridge Park on Monday, July 14th from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.—the meeting will detail the upcoming water main replacement by Ypsilanti Community Utilities Authority starting at the end of July and the planned Harriet Street pavement reconstruction by MDOT and the City.  City of Ypsilanti
  • The Ypsilanti City Council will hold a hybrid meeting on Tuesday, July 15th at 6:00 p.m. at Council Chambers at City Hall — online participants can join via Zoom and members of the public can offer comments during designated times.  City of Ypsilanti
