CRIME NEWS

  • A former Eastern Michigan University police officer, Alex Colarossi, 27, was charged for allegedly hiding cameras in a co-worker's hotel room during a police union conference in Grand Rapids and in an EMU locker room—allegations involving three female victims—and he resigned after being placed on leave as investigators review further digital evidence.  FOX 2

  • On June 18th, a federal lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court Eastern District of Michigan against the Michigan Law Review by FASORP, which alleges the publication uses race and sex preferences to discriminate against straight white men—claiming it violates federal anti-discrimination laws.  MLive

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Federal government rescinded $24.6 million in funds aimed at protecting 4,000 acres of farms and natural lands in Southeast Michigan—officials say the cut jeopardized conservation plans in Jackson, Lenawee, Livingston, Washtenaw, and Wayne counties. Conservation coalition members warn that the loss of funding may delay or cancel future preservation projects.  MLive

  • Doctors from Cleveland Clinic and University of Michigan Health warned residents that extreme heat can cause dehydration and lead to serious illnesses like heat stroke if water was not consumed.
