- ➤ On May 29, protesters disrupted a talk at the Rackham Building over concerns that the University of Michigan’s proposed $1.2B data centers in Ypsilanti Township may have secret military purposes and could dump waste into the Huron River—university police removed three individuals with formal trespass warnings and no arrests were made. - ➤ Lester Mullin said his son, Shawn, was hit and killed in a hit-and-run on Interstate 94 near Ypsilanti Township at about 2:25 a.m. on May 25 after his car likely died on the Rawsonville Road ramp and he was found naked—police reported the fleeing driver drove a black sedan and part of the car was recovered as the investigation continues. - ➤ Local farmers often drive over 50 miles for USDA meat processing, but an Ann Arbor couple is building a 21,000-square-foot USDA-inspected meat facility in Manchester that will process beef, hogs, sheep and other livestock—helping farmers avoid long drives—for a nearby option. The project earned a $4.1 million USDA grant and will start construction this summer to support a local food system. MLive

- ➤ Police said that on Jan 4 masked attackers broke into a home on East Willow Road, tied up a man and a woman and pistol-whipped one victim — leaving blood and damage in the house where a 3-year-old was present and the suspects were later charged with home invasion, armed robbery, and unlawful imprisonment. - ➤ A judge ordered repairs at Arbor One apartments in Ypsilanti on May 30—residents had long reported plumbing issues, mold, and insect and vermin infestation—and the management must now offer relocation assistance plus rent refunds dating back to September 2024. Residents hope the repairs will improve the deplorable living conditions without penalties for those who choose to leave. FOX 2
