CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Northfield Township’s eight-year historic preservation project earned a Governor’s Award (recognizing the effort on over 1,300 properties) as it secured National Register status for five rural sites near Whitmore Lake. MLive
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The University of Michigan School of Public Health laid off two lecturers and is eliminating or not filling 15 staff roles as its revenue streams and enrollment decline. Administrators said the changes help address a forecasted budget shortfall for fiscal year 2027 — details on the new roles remain unclear. MLive
- ➤ EMU students Jacob Richardson and Rosemary Kendall developed TreEMU, a digital map that shows 4,800 woody plants on campus (after more than 250 field hours) that will support future environmental studies and campus sustainability. MLive
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Arbor One in Ypsilanti has new management as Atlanta-based RAM Partners took over mid-April amid ongoing renovations following years of legal and repair challenges. The restructuring is set to finalize mid-July & more repairs remain for hundreds of condemned units. MLive
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Former Tigers farmhand José Azócar got a new chance in the majors when the Atlanta Braves selected his contract from Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday to replace the injured Ronald Acuna Jr.—the Venezuelan who signed with the Tigers as a teenager will turn 30 next week. MLive
- ➤ Damani Gordon from Ypsilanti Lincoln was voted the top junior athlete in the Ann Arbor area for the 2026 spring sports season. He earned the title after winning the 100 meter dash four times and the 200 meter race twice last spring. MLive
- ➤ Michigan's women's tennis team advanced into the Sweet 16 in Ann Arbor after beating Florida 4 to 2 Sunday (they now have an 11 match win streak starting from a 10 to 6 record). They will face North Carolina in Chapel Hill on Friday. MLive
