- ➤ Washtenaw County Circuit Court Judge Patrick Conlin Jr. denied Parker Isaac Adams’ request for a new trial after he was convicted in 2023 for the fatal stabbing of Gavin Carney at Ypsilanti’s Peninsular Park—his attorney had argued that self-defense jury instructions were omitted. MLive
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ UMich Advocates and the LSA Student Government organized a petition that has gathered over 500 signatures and urges University of Michigan leaders to reinvest in diversity, equity, and inclusion programs after closing its DEI offices on March 27— the petition calls for reallocating resources to create a new unit modeled after UM-Flint’s Wolverine HOPE and for a meeting with the Board of Regents. - ➤ The Ypsilanti Historic District Commission will hold its regular hybrid meeting on May 13 at 7 p.m. at SPARK East Innovation Center—residents may join in person or online and speak during the public comment period. City of Ypsilanti
- ➤ Superior Township approved a rental inspection ordinance at its first reading Monday night at Superior Township Hall; if approved in a second reading, Carlisle Wortman Associates will enforce the policy using frequent inspections and fee structures for rental properties.
