- ➤ Youth Arts Alliance received approval from the Ypsilanti Planning Commission for a 3,632-square-foot 'Home for Healing' arts and community center at 325 E. Michigan Ave— the center will offer free arts practice, youth mentoring, and mental health support. The project must share parking with a neighbor and is expected to open in June 2026. MLive
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Ed Berger, who survived a home invasion that killed his partner, sued Elana James on April 15 in Washtenaw County Circuit Court, asking the judge to order the return of Isabelle— the golden retriever he co-owned with Susan Hammerton— after alleging that James altered veterinary records and took the dog to Austin without his permission. - ➤ EMU officials confirmed a Presidential Search Advisory Committee led by Regent Anupam Chugh Sidhu to help choose a new president as James M Smith will leave when his term ends on June 30—this committee of faculty, students, staff, alumni and donors has held campus sessions and will shape the candidate search process with interviews set for October and November.
