  • The 665-foot Viking Polaris will launch Michigan’s 2026 cruising season by docking Monday in Detroit and visiting Alpena Tuesday + stopping off Mackinac Island Wednesday; its 8-day itinerary is set to boost regional tourism with a projected $300 million impact.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Genesee County sheriff Chris Swanson filed 26,752 petition signatures in Lansing on Friday, April 17, to qualify for the governor's ballot. He said the move shows working-class support from all 83 counties.  MLive

SPORTS NEWS

  • Analysts on a local podcast say the Lions may surprise fans in the NFL draft by picking Oregon tight end Kenyon Sadiq, as the team focuses on the best player available + bolstering its offensive line.  MLive
  • Cade Cunningham, who missed 11 games due to a collapsed lung, had his NBA eligibility appeal accepted, making him eligible for All-NBA honors later this season; Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff said the decision supports players affected by unexpected injuries (including Cunningham's) as the team heads into the playoffs.  MLive
  • The Pistons will face the Orlando Magic in the NBA playoffs after Orlando beat the Charlotte Hornets on Friday, Apr. 17 in Orlando. This matchup is the first meeting in the postseason since Detroit’s last win over the Magic in 2008 (a notable detail).  MLive
  • Michigan high school boys track and field rankings were compiled from results through April 16 and reflect performances before regionals on April 17, with top competitors including Charlie Sanders and De-Mani Roberts in various events.  MLive
