COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Ypsilanti District Library downtown branch at 229 W. Michigan Ave—closed for repairs after flooding damage in 2023—is set to reopen on Monday, April 14. Patrons will soon be able to return to the historic library for its new chapter. MLive
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A person died Friday morning in a single-car crash on Leforge—West Clark roads in Superior Township, and police said the time of the crash was not clear. MLive
- ➤ Thirteen offshore online casinos received cease-and-desist letters from the Michigan Gaming Control Board for breaking state laws by setting high withdrawal thresholds and not meeting safety rules, and the operators (based in Curaçao, Costa Rica, and Anjouan) must stop operating by April 25th or face felony charges, prison time, and fines. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On April 9, more than 250 University of Michigan Law School alumni sent a letter to interim dean Kyle Logue to protest cuts to DEI programs. The letter has gathered over 330 signatures (from Concerned University of Michigan Law School Alumni) and the school said DEI values remain central (stating the changes will not affect daily operations). GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Ypsilanti Planning Commission will hold a hybrid meeting in-person and online on April 16 at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall—Council Chambers on S. Huron Street. City of Ypsilanti
- ➤ At the town hall meeting at the Chelsea Senior Center, seniors said they want the new millage to fund nutrition, meal programs, better transportation, and enhanced senior centers while keeping administrative costs low — county officials will review these proposals as they plan spending the funds. - ➤ Drivers traveling on westbound Michigan Avenue from Denton Road to Dellor Street will see the ramp to westbound U.S. 12 Business Route closed at 7 a.m. Monday, April 14 as crews start an $870,000 concrete repair project along U.S. 12 Business Route on the border of Wayne and Washtenaw counties through July. Drivers on eastbound U.S. 12 Business Route from Rawsonville Road to Michigan Avenue and on westbound from Denton Road to Rawsonville Road will also face lane closures although one lane remains open in each direction.
