CULTURE NEWS

  • The Michigan Firehouse Museum in Ypsilanti will host a wine festival on Saturday, June 27, featuring tastings from 14 Michigan wineries, local distillers, and a craft brewery. Each ticket costs $22.94 and includes a souvenir glass (granting access to three museum floors, live music, and small bites).  MLive
  • Three veteran blues guitarists will perform live at The Ark (316 S. Main St.) in Ann Arbor on Saturday, May 16 at 8 p.m. as part of their Midwest tour, which features solo acts, collaborative numbers, and storytelling from decades of musical expertise.  MLive

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • EPA officials met with local leaders and environmental activists at Washtenaw Community College on April 7 to discuss next steps for cleaning up the Gelman dioxane plume, now a federal Superfund site. The agency will review data and plan further actions to protect the Huron River from contamination.  MLive

HEALTH NEWS

  • Henry Ford Health has launched the Healthy Heart Project which provides free heart screenings at nine local centers during April. Dr. Shukri David explains that quick tests can detect hidden heart issues (like high blood pressure and diabetes).  FOX 2

SPORTS NEWS

  • Michigan hockey, seeded No. 1, is set to face Denver today in the Frozen Four after a 4-3 win against Minnesota Duluth. Coach Brandon Naurato and his team, featuring a revamped roster, aim to end nearly 30 years without a national title.  MLive
  • Ann Arbor-area players are set to shine this spring season — 25 top softball athletes were identified by local coaches and sports media based on last year's strong performances.
