COMMUNITY NEWS

  • More than 50 residents gathered at City Hall on Jan. 28 to discuss Water Street redevelopment, raising concerns about housing affordability and environmental protections. An ad hoc committee including council members and community volunteers will shape proposals addressing local needs such as shelters for at risk groups.  MLive

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Circle K on 528 E. Clark Road in Ypsilanti will permanently close on Feb. 16 — the company will keep operating its stations in Ann Arbor and a nearby township.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Federal immigration authorities detained four people Tuesday near two high schools on Congress Street; school officials confirmed agents did not enter any campus and local leaders urged residents to rely on official updates rather than rumor—reminding all to stay informed.  MLive
  • University of Michigan will hold a town hall today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Roy Wilbanks Ballroom at Marriott Ypsilanti at Eagle Crest to discuss its planned high-performance computing facility; officials expect site selection in 2026 and construction to begin in 2027 (safety and environmental reviews continue).  MLive
